Ancient Medicine

"Heal the soul first; then healing of the mind and body will follow" ~ Zhi Gang Sha

From the website of the legendary alchemy researcher, 'Adam Mclean'

Adam Mclean

As stated on the 'About' section of Adam Mclean's website:

"Researcher into the ancient art and science of Alchemy. The creator of the alchemy web site, Adam McLean, is a well known authority on and enthusiast for alchemical texts and symbolism, the editor and publisher of over 40 books on alchemical and Hermetic ideas. Based in the UK, he has been writing and researching alchemical and hermetic literature for many years. Between 1978 and 1992 he edited the Hermetic Journal and during those years he also began publishing the Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks, the important series of twenty seven editions of key source texts of the hermetic tradition. From 1990 through 2002 he was supported by the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica to undertake research into hermetic texts. This enabled him to devote much of his time to research and projects making alchemical ideas available to people. In 1995, when the internet became more widely available, he began to construct the alchemy web site in order to make alchemical ideas more accessible to the wider community. It is now recognised as the most important internet resource on alchemy."

His website is deeply educational and has all you need to know when it comes to alchemy! I am certian that there is no other website like his. Once you realise how much information is there, it will take your breath away completely! Please take a look!

How to explore alchemical symbolism Part 1. A Major Awakening to True Alchemical Symbolism..

As stated under the video on youtube:
"Part one will deal with what alchemical symbolism is, how it appears in the historical sequence, its various forms and the components of its structure."

A very true extract from

"The Emerald Tablet is an ancient artifact that reveals a profound spiritual technology, which has survived to this day despite centuries of effort to suppress it. Encoded within the tablet's mysterious wording is a powerful formula that works in very specific and comprehensible steps on all levels of reality at once -- the physical, the mental, and the spiritual -- and shows us how to achieve personal transformation and even accelerate the evolution of our species. The source of alchemy and the Hermetic sciences, the tablet's universal approach made it forbidden knowledge, condemned by patriarchal powers for thousands of years, from the Egyptian priesthood, to the medieval Church, to our modern politicians and religious leaders. To ensure the survival of such "dangerous" principles, which guide people to higher states of consciousness, the ancients concealed their knowledge in a succinct declaration that has become a time capsule of wisdom for future generations"

Ancient Atlantean Alchemists and the Arcanum Experiment.

Atlantean alchemists were not just early scientists; they demonstrated their deep knowledge for spiritual healing via a once very secretive and sacred ritual. This was an experiment that had encryptions and codes written into every level of a person's journey through life. This was their quest to find what is known as 'The Philosopher's Stone'. This they painstakingly did, by various methods of Calcination, Dissolution, Separation, Conjunction, Fermentation, Distillation and Coagulation, which are the 7 major operations in the 'Alchemy of Transformation'. This is known as 'The Arcanum Experiment'. Each stage corresponds with the first 7 points of energy shown within the Chakra energy portals. Like the sacred Chakra levels, each operation was an example of the chemical break down of the old, representing the spirit's rejuvenation inside an unconscious body, so that the transformation of old habits that once held the spirit back, could disappear, to allow the forgotten spiritual aspect of the self to be reunited with the body again, in a new and awakened state of being.

As the wise words of wisdom from the 'Heart Sutra' of the Mahayana says; "Form is emptiness; emptiness is form."

This meaning runs deep within the alchemist's life cycle and can be interpreted by Basil Valentine's depiction of the spiritual cleansing on his, "Azoth of the Philosphers" emblem (first published in 1659, for his book, "Azoth of the Philosophers".)

The chemicals and metals used in this experiment were, to the alchemist, very much alive, like sacred entities that could foretell the future of every worthy alchemist that worked upon the sacred ingredients. This was a reflection unto himself and a way of purifying and maintaining the 'One Thing' of the greater soul to achieve perfect intuition which was a direct gnosis of reality.

"All Obscurity will be clear to you", a quote taken from "The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus", yet a phrase that is applied to all teachings within the spiritual realm, for it is the highest level of spiritual attainment going beyond all the 7 levels and into the realms of untainted perfection.

Most people practising this spiritual attainment, only manage to achieve the first 3 levels of purification, with the more dedicated achieving up to level 5 and fewer still achieving level 7, but the good news is, it is possible. The video link below, is an extremely insightful lecture on the 7 major operations in the "Alchemy of Transformation", by the genius that is Dennis William Hauck! Still very relevent today!

Earth, Air, Fire, Water

The Spiritual Breakdown of the Alchemical Elements

Within th Ptolemaic system (Ptolemy of Alexandria); which was also a great influence in the Rosicrucian belief system, Earth was the centre of the solar system, with 3 planets above, 3 planets  below. A person was thought to have been made up of 4 elemental structures that coincide with various dieties:

1. Moon – Birth

2. Mercury - Growth

3. Venus – Emotion

4. Sun – Thought

5. Azoth – The sacred substance concealed in the hilt of the sword of Paracelsus. This represented the transmutation of metals and in turn was the transmutation of the lower to the higher.

"All are the kingdoms of nature around us", Manly.P.Hall.

1. Mineral Earth – Birth - growth of plants in the humid environment. It is linked with the lymphatic and glandular structure of the body as plant-like.

2. Oceans Water – Growth – vegetation. This is linked with maturing from around 12 to 21 yrs where true social consciousness starts.

3. Volcanoes and heats of life fire – emotion – animal kingdom. This is linked with ambition, habits and tricks that can slow us down towards the next stage. It is the way of harnessing the astral body – to get rid of  lower desires (Selfish low vibrations) so as to accumulate higher desires (so from material to spiritual).

4. Airy Principle the mind - Thought. With fire meaning cosmic fire or psychological fire from emotions. The Astro plain was a place that looked like paradise, but the ancients knew of the constraint where all plants had a snake wrapped around them. This symbolised the control of emotion. To be born with the mind, means to be in awareness of the function, by the law of nature around them.

A person must try to master the first 3 elements listed above. Not easy to get to the 4th. If a person is not able to reach the 4th level, the person can transcend back to growth if they are not careful.

Nearly all psychic phenomena are involved in the principle of fire. It is an emotional struggle for a person to get a hold of his integrity, but not many people are living in the emotional universe and instead live in the mental one. To get to the true thought of their being, they need to transmute the lower to get to the higher. To create a new ideal to grow to the ‘thought’ principle. In Alchemy this is transmutation or transformation.

Emotions run at a specific rate of vibration, with sub-rates, every emotion effects the health, the body and the mind. If one person fails, they will suffer and from that a group of people will also suffer and fail because of the ripple-effects of that one person.

All the 4 principles have rules with sub-vibratory patterns that also have rules that must be obeyed or the whole thing gets disrupted. Mind can be the disciplinarians to emotion and action. It will not destroy either of them if done within the Laws. So a  person with no emotions will not progress to the next level. The mind is the instrument that works within arts, with ethics and idealism.

According to Andrew Jackson Davis, in his book, 'The stella key to the summer land';

"The invisible world to the emotional land was the summer land. This can be developed in the mind of a person that believes and lives it. A person can be in a summer land if his ethics and virtues were true and his beliefs were not just on paper. All religions have a summer land with spheres of rewards and punishments."

This does not mean you need a religion to be in 'a summer land'.

As Manly quotes.: "People need to change themselves first, in order to keep their religion as a religion should not be kept in order to change themselves".

The snake is the symbol of Karma for the dweller in the self, the one that knew that they did not do what was meant in truth. These Emotions involve appetites (desires and wants). Parental corruption can play a part in not being responsible enough for a precious and innocent life.

In nature all learning is by observation. The education in schools should be able to give the student the discipline 'of self'. This can make it possible for the person to live towards the convictions of his integrity. To learn the 'Universal Law'.

'The ladder of the sages', tells us that Venus is the basis based upon value rather than birth. Moon mother, Venus the bride is the maturing of our relationship with other people.

You do not have to be religious to find these words powerful, as they hold a lot of truth! WATER (Re-Birth/Growth), AIR (Wind/Thought), EARTH (Birth/Growth), FIRE (Light/Emotional Desires)

I chose this video because this speech runs in many sacred books, with the most interesting part being that all of the alchemical elements are mentioned by Jesus. Perhaps an alchemist himself, he runs through Air, Water, fire and earth in quick succession, as they relate to the spirit within people.

Ulterior motives bring those symbolic snakes, wrapped around the flowers. In Asia the western paradise of the reincarnations is a vacation with no selfishness or breaking of rules and exploitation of natural resources. To keep the peace, in the ‘paradise of Amitabha, (or the Buddha of Eternal Life, also known as one of the five Cosmic Buddhas of Esoteric Buddhism), babies are born from lotus buds in the leaves, which represents the principle of eternal truth, which also gives the purest form of a natural state. This a person can harness within themselves, where there is no conflict within the individual.

Emmanuel Swedenborg also writes about this kind of world, after he had a near death experience, in his book called 'Heaven and Hell';

"If a person is good and loving in this world and strives to set their ego aside in order to help others, that person is bound for heaven regardless of their faith. All the people in the heavens live in different areas according to the cardinal directions. People who are sensitive to the good that love live along the east-west axis: the ones who have a clear perception of this, toward the east; and the ones who have a vague perception of it, toward the west. People who are sensitive to the issues of wisdom that result [from that good] live along the south-north axis: the ones in a clear light of wisdom, toward the south; and the ones in a dim light of wisdom, toward the north. Communities that are located toward the east are superior to those toward the west, and those toward the south are superior to those toward the north. This is why the cardinal directions in heaven mean the qualities of 150 the people who live there. The east means love and its good clearly perceived, the west the same dimly perceived, the south wisdom and intelligence in clear light, and the north the same in dim light. Further, since the directions have these meanings, they mean similar things in the inner or spiritual meaning of the Word, since the inner or spiritual meaning of the Word is in complete accord with the way things are in heaven."

This is how white magic can help to  rid this because it does not seek to gain for the self. The word majia – means fantasy and illusion and this Imagination can be collective or individual.

Nations decimate themselves for victory, no nation ever really won a war. This becomes a problem in the world of magic. 1st degree masons would have the power to govern nature but this means to obey it and not abuse it. If not, they are cast out. Being cast out doesn’t mean going to a hell it means being set aside until we learn to grow properly.

There are 3 steps in Masonry; It is the 9 months in the womb that are counted first before the 3 steps that make 12 in accordance with  the zodiac which forms the perfect circle. So 9 months in the womb and 3 degrees of the mysteries (are actually the broken circle), which within the cycle of each year, stands for 3 deg of conscious growth to complete the embodiment of the individual between Christmas and Easter.

(The wheel of broken spokes in the Christian Rite in the canonisation of High Patria of Alexandria). Born imperfect but given the right to perfection and given the eternal textbook.

An Alchemist quotes: “The Deity has given man a great textbook, nature, but he must learn to read it by walking it with his feet”.

That is complete when we serve those in need of wisdom, not if we just serve those we know and like.

The alchemical and spiritual body as a blue-print to the higher realms

An extremely enlightening insight into the mind of Emanuel Swedenborg on the 'correspondence of heaven in its entirety with the individual human being.'

Mr Swedenborg outlines how every fibre of our being that houses the spirit within us, also relates, like a blue-print, to the many heavenly levels and realms, like a personal map for every being on this earth;

"A person, and that it is a person in image, is therefore called the universal human. It has also been explained that for this reason, the heavenly communities that make up heaven are arranged like the members, organs, and viscera in a human being.

The heavenly kingdom in general corresponds to the heart and to all the extensions of the heart throughout the body. The spiritual kingdom corresponds to the lungs and to all their extension throughout the body. Further, the heart and the lungs form two kingdoms in us, the heart governing through the arteries and veins and the lungs through the nerve and motor fibers, each involved in every effort and action.

People who are in the head in the universal human (that is heaven), are supremely involved in everything good. In fact, they are in love, peace, innocence, wisdom, intelligence, and therefore in delight and happiness. These flow into the head and into the components of the head in us, and correspond to them.

People who are in the chest of the universal human (that is heaven) are involved in the qualities of thoughtfulness and faith, and also flow into our chests and correspond to them.

However, people who are in the groin of the universal human (or heaven), and in the organs dedicated to reproduction are in marriage love.

People who are in the feet are in the outmost heaven, which is called “natural-spiritual good.”

People who are in the arms and hands are in the power of what is true because of what is good.

People who are in the eyes are in understanding. People who are in the ears are in attentiveness and obedience.

People who are in the nostrils are in perception.

People in the mouth and tongue in conversing from discernment and perception.

People who are in the kidneys are in truth that probes and discriminates and purifies.

People in the liver, pancreas, and spleen are in various aspects of purification of what is good and true; and so on. They flow into the like parts of the human being and correspond to them. This is the origin of correspondence. This is why these same members, organs, and viscera in the Word, mean similar things."
